BLUEY (#3) AND HIS NEW LIFE.....

22 January 2008.

Hello , My name is Bluey (#3) and here is the story of my new life.

One Thursday late in November I was taken for a ride, Oh! boy was I taken for a ride, went to sleep with a deep voice and woke up with squeaky voice. Later in the day I met some people who wanted to look after me and change by ways. I ask you, change me? Teach an old dog of three and a half years, new tricks. My taxi driver waved me good-bye and drove away but not before I saw the bag of biscuits. As I looked around the room I saw what looked like my bed, a three seater lounge and it had a slight doggy smell to it. I was in luck but it lacked sufficient depth so I soon kicked the back cushions out of the way. So far so good, I still have possession. I did look at the back "bedroom"but it wasn't quite comfortable enough for my long legs. The previous occupants, a couple of Beagles would have been very happy. Tea first night was a bit boring, just biscuits but the menus did improve next day with the addition of some meat loaf.

Next day I had an early start as Mum had to get Dad to work in her little car - He told me his car is in hospital for a couple of weeks. I like riding in this little car, easy to get in and out of and all the back seat to myself.

The very next day we all went to a picnic where there were lots of little people running around and playing games. It was near a busy road with lots of noisy trucks which made me jump a couple of times but I soon got used to them. Saw a few things on two and four legs but I felt safe, they were in a big pen. I'm told that they were chooks, ducks, rabbits, sheep and goats. The mean looking goat kept watching me; I was pleased there was a fence between us. The little people wanted to pat and cuddle me and I enjoyed that but they had to keep clear of my whippy tail. I cannot help it if I like people and whip my tail around.

My nose twitched and I smelt yummy food, it was a sausage sizzle. Now if someone would only remove this cage around my mouth I could help myself off the hotplate, the advantage of long legs. At last, and it tasted good. That night I slept like a baby.

Next morning the car was again being packed and soon I was on the back seat but heading in the opposite direction. Dad squeezed the little car into a parking bay in a park with lots of trees - I like watering trees. Mum walked me across the roadway to an area with lots of people and "kindred spirits". I heard my name called and recognised my previous carer. We had big cuddles. Those big silver noisy flies were a nuisance at first but I got used to them. By the end of the day they did not bother me. There was a rope tied around a small area which was called a ring. Some of my "kindred spirits" were done up in "fancy dress". Boy, was some of it fancy, pleased Mum and Dad didn¹t know about this beforehand or whatever would I have looked liked. Saw one "kindred spirit' doing as he was told in the ring; sitting, standing, waiting to be called forward and then actually going to his boss. He must be brain washed!! Soon it was my turn to walk around inside the ring and wag my tail. That was easy, I do it all the time. They gave me a piece of paper which said "Waggiest Tail"and some biscuits -yummy. Soon it was time to leave my new found friends with a promise I would try and see them again.

After another long sleep it was Monday, day five. Went for a walk around the oval and met some of the locals, some are white with short legs and some I was eye to eye with. As usual I greeted them all in my usual fashion, tail wagging wildly. Even their controller were swooning over me. I must look OK That evening Dad took me to meet many other "spirits".. We had to line up in a straight row and do as we were told, sit, heel, sit, heel, sit , heel. I could only take so much of that as it not so easy with my long legs so I tried to play up. Must have done alright as the whistle blew and we came home for tea.

Next day was a day off except for a ride in the car. The following evening another trip in the car, another direction. We went to a little park with a fence all around it, just the place for a good run without a lead. This was not to be, on with the plastic mouth guard, held on a short lead and led into a building. What is this black monster lounging on a mat?

Haven't seen one before, Will it run - No - I'll have to pull forward and have a sniff. Got hauled back, try again. Got pulled back again. After this I was taken into another room and a nice lady ran her hands all over me. That was nice, I enjoyed it so much I just stood still. I must have been good because she brought me a dish of food, just got a couple of mouth fulls and she took it away from me. That was alright as there was enough for two but she obviously didn't like it as I was given it back, so I did what all my friends did, licked the dish clean. Then I was told I had still earned my Green Collar. Hurrah, no more plastic mouth guards and a green collar to wear, I'm part of the group now but my file has been marked "Not cat safe". And all this has happened within the first week of me being on the outside¹

Since then another six weeks have passed and I have had to put up with a lot of new experiences such as walking along Grange jetty with the gaps between the boards, running in the sand on the end of a long lead, and watching the those big trucks passing close to me. I even told that bloke upstairs where to go when he created thunder, that's when I found out I still had a deep voice. The big vehicle with the Blue & Red lights also made me jump when it started screaming so I gave it a 'grey'look as he disappeared into the distance.

Today I was checked out and interrogated by a stranger. Mum and Dad talked with him for a long time and my ears were burning. We went for a walk and we got on OK, I walked quietly by his side on a loose lead, as usual on my best behavior. Seems he has a big garden and he wants me to keep his other four legged friend company. She is of mixed descent and I'm told I will meet her tomorrow night at eight. Hope she likes me. Better have a bath and brush up before she arrives.

Met Sasha at eight. Both of us were wagging tails as we met. We went for a walk around the oval side by side, escorted of course. She is a nice girl and some of my new found friends also met and greeted here. I took her back home to meet Mum and she approved. Her Dad says I can visit her tomorrow night for a look around their house and garden - can't wait. I really did want to get into their car tonight, especially after she licked my face. Must be love.

Well we met at a little park near her home. It is for little people and their four legged friends so it has a fence all around it to protect us from the traffic. After chasing after her a few times, she always picks the ball up first, she showed me the water fountain but I¹ll have to learn how to stand on two legs before I can drink from it. Afterwards it was a short walk to her house. I should feel safe there, a double fence at the front with a five foot high metal fence and inner five foot mesh fence all around the garden. That should keep the intruders out. After about an hour it was back into the car for a ride "home"and more sweet dreams.

PS. I'm moving into her house on Friday.
