CHRISSY'S BLOG
21 March 2008
My names Chrissy and Ive recently been adopted into my forever home. My new dad thinks Im the most wonderful dog in the world, and who am I to argue with him?
I was a bit sad my first night at my new home because I missed my foster parents. But, Dad gave me lots of cuddles and made me huge big cushion to sleep on. It didnt take me long to realise this was my bed and where I decided to keep all my fluffy toys. Dad also gave me a chew bone, he said it was to keep my teeth nice and healthy, but I wasnt sure what I was supposed to do with it. Ive figured it out now and each time he gives me a new chew bone I take it to my bed and make a big mess!
After a few days I started to feel much safer and settled in. I live with a cat called Fran and big duck called Charlie. A very big duck! When I first saw him I couldnt believe my eyes! Id never seen a duck before and I thought he might be fun to play with so I decided to bounce on him! That wasnt a very good idea because then he chased me and I had to hide behind Dad and put my head under his arm so I couldnt see Charlie after me. Since then I know its safer not to bounce on Charlie and to avoid him.
Then I thought it might be fun to bounce on Fran. She was taking a little too long to like me and I decided it was time we became best buddies. I did everything I could to impress her. I threw my fluffy toys in the air, I chased my tail, I bounded around and talked to her, but nothing seemed to work. Then I had another idea, one I thought she couldnt possibly not be impressed over. I took her half my chew bone. Once again I bounced around and stamped my feet, I tossed the chew bone so she could catch it and join in on all the fun. Unfortunately it hit her in the head. Fran glared at me then and walked away. Things have improved between Fran and I lately. We put our noses together and have kisses. Soon well be best buddies!
Dad takes me for a walk every night and most mornings too. Lots of people stop to tell me Im beautiful and want to pat me. Dad tells them all about GAP and me, we think it might help other people want to give greyhounds a home. I love going for walks! When I think its time Dad should take me out I grab my collar and lead and take it to him. The other day I was so excited to go walking that I lost a little bit of my self-control and started bouncing and being silly. Dad took hold of my chin and said, If you dont behave, young lady, we wont be going anywhere! Dad never yells at me, he doesnt have to because Im very smart. I knew I was being silly and I knew Dad wasnt kidding when he said we wouldnt go walking. So I calmed down and walked at his side like a good girl.
I also love visitors! When someone comes to visit I make sure they know how happy I am to see them, even if Ive never met them before. This makes Dad and the visitors laugh. They say I look like a baby giraffe when I bound around with my long legs going in every direction. Then I entertain them by throwing my fluffy toys around. They love it when I do this unlike Fran. When Dad takes me outside I like to run at full speed in a figure eight until I exhaust myself and have to sleep for the next few hours. Im excellent at sleeping!
Im very attached to my Dad now and wander around glued to his side. He calls me his shadow. Hes taught me how to stay when Im told and how to come and tell him when I need to go outside rather than stand by the door and hope he sees me. Im a quick learner and this makes Dad proud. Sometimes I try and fool him and when he takes me outside and tells me to Do wees. I pretend Im doing wees. Somehow Dad always knows Im pretending though! Dad cooks my dinner for me and my coat is lovely and shiny. When people stop to talk to me they comment on my soft coat and how much it shines. They say Im elegant and noble looking, but they havent seen me at playtime when I look like the giraffe!
It hasnt taken me long to adjust to living a life of luxury. In fact, Im not even typing this because I made Dad do it for me while I sleep. I hope all my greyhound friends find homes as happy as mine is!
