SMOKEY'S BLOG ENTRY

31 January 2008

Hi my name is Smokey, formerly Elders Boy. Now I thought I should put my own little blog in to help some of you up and coming retiree's get the right start to this retired life thing. I've been at it for 6 years this year and I think I'm a fairly knowledgeable greyhound in most area's. Firstly I have my mum trained pretty well and 4pm in the afternoon is when I expect my dinner to be served. Not 4.05pm or 4.30pm but 4 pm SHARP.

If your new human doesn't get your food bowl out at the expected time then pacing in the kitchen is a good start. If your human is still a little unsure of what your after then whining is a good next step followed by going to the door and looking at your food bowl. It won't take long for your new human to catch on.

Walk time is another thing that I love even though I will be 10 this year. Mum has learned that I like my walks in the cool of the morning in summer and we normally head out at around 6am when I have stirred from my bed. Or when Cassie (KC'S Majestic) my racing greyhound sister who lives inside with me has whined at me SO much that I get up so she can pinch her favourite bed (which just happens to be mine).

Small humans are always good for a tidbit if you hang around them as they normally drop stuff on the floor and if your really clever laying and staring at them with sad eyes normally gets you a bit extra. (Be careful not to do this when the big humans are around though).

Well I hope those few hints have helped a little bit. I might jot down a few more and send them in for the next newsletter so you can really get up to speed with retired life.

PS - I am the handsome fellow above, and this is my racing sister Cassie (below) she was hiding her eyes from the flash.
